Transforming Perceptions: Fiji Police’s Path to Integrity

Acting Commissioner Juki Fong Chew addressed concerns about corruption within the Fiji Police Force, asserting that the organization as a whole is not corrupt and that a few individuals’ actions have fueled negative perceptions. During a medal award ceremony at the Fiji Police Academy, Chew urged officers to focus on improving public perception through exemplary conduct in their work.

He noted that while some positive feedback has been received about their efforts, it pales in comparison to the damaging impressions created when an officer faces legal charges. Chew expressed his openness to criticism, suggesting that he believes in the ability of police officers to change for the better.

Encouraging officers to adapt to the changing criminal environment, Chew emphasized the importance of treating each day as a new opportunity to improve for themselves, their families, and the community they serve. He concluded the ceremony by presenting various medals, including the Fiji Police Medal and the Fiji Police Long Service Medal, to officers from different departments within the force.
