The Sai Prema Foundation has garnered significant praise for its initiative to provide free heart surgeries to children in Fiji and across the Pacific, as highlighted by Trade and Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica. The establishment of the Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital, which operates without charges, has relieved many parents from the financial burden of seeking life-saving medical care.
Kamikamica emphasized the hospital’s positive impact on families, integrating the values of partnership among the government, faith-based organizations, civil society, and the private sector to enhance healthcare in the country. He noted that, to date, the hospital has achieved over 363 heart surgeries and more than 30,000 screenings, positioning itself as a vital institution for children’s health in the Pacific.
During a recent event, Kamikamica reiterated that healthcare should be a universal right, asserting the importance of collective action in addressing the pressing healthcare challenges. Elder Taniela Wakolo from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints also acknowledged the Church’s contribution of over $1 million in medical support, including significant equipment for annual screenings of thousands of children.
The Foundation’s founder, Sri Madhusudan Sai, expressed his gratitude for the government’s support, emphasizing that Fiji stands out as the only country offering extensive backing to the hospital, which has directly facilitated thousands of children receiving necessary life-saving treatments.
