The Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital celebrated its third anniversary on April 24 in Nasese, marking three years of impactful, life-saving cardiac care for children across Fiji and the Pacific. Acting Prime Minister Viliame Gavoka highlighted the hospital’s significant contributions, emphasizing that “these numbers aren’t just statistics” but transformative changes allowing children to play freely and families to remain hopeful without the constant worry of heart health issues.

Since its establishment, the hospital has emerged as a crucial center for pediatric cardiac care, providing free surgeries and consultations. Over 29,000 heart screenings have been conducted through its dedicated Children’s Heart Screening Centre, addressing a critical gap in pediatric healthcare in the region.

During the anniversary event, Gavoka reiterated the Coalition Government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services, announcing plans for Fiji’s first dedicated cardiac training academy by 2026, which aims to cultivate a locally-sustained workforce of specialists.

The assembly of medical professionals, dignitaries, donors, and families during the celebration reflects the hospital’s profound impact on the community. It showcases a concerted mission to offer compassionate, free care, aiming to ensure that all children in need receive the treatments they require, irrespective of their financial situations.

This year, coinciding with the anniversary, the hospital will also host a series of free heart surgeries led by an international team of experts, reinforcing its pledge to combat congenital heart disease through collaborative efforts.

The hospital’s initiatives not only tackle immediate health issues but also foster ongoing awareness and future hope for families challenged by heart conditions. The multi-faceted efforts, including advanced screenings and specialized health training, project a promising outlook on healthcare accessibility in Fiji and the surrounding region.

As the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital continues its vital work, the positive impact on children’s health in the Pacific is a testament to the collective spirit of community, compassion, and medical expertise.
