Northern New City Tourism Development Pte Limited has initiated an ambitious tourism development project in Korovatu, Labasa, with investments amounting to several million dollars. The site, situated near the Korovatu picnic area and offering views of Mali Island and Malau, was recently inspected by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Communications, Manoa Kamikamica.

Ma Xianlin, the managing director of Northern New City Tourism Development Pte Limited, is a tourism developer from China who first visited Fiji as a tourist in 2018. Following this visit, he acquired 151 acres of land in 2022. He expressed gratitude to Investment Fiji for their ongoing support and guidance throughout the project.

According to Mr. Xianlin, approximately $5 million has been invested in the initial phases, which focus on upgrading the site. Future plans include the construction of a hotel, resort, guest house, cantilever swimming pool, mini cable car, and mountain top steps, all aimed at enhancing tourism and creating engaging activities for visitors. The project is set to unfold in stages over the next five years.

Mr. Kamikamica commended the project’s initial developments, highlighting the spectacular views available from the elevated location. He remarked on the positive impact this venture will have for the local community, allowing them to enjoy a range of tourism-related activities that reflect an overseas lifestyle. He offered Mr. Xianlin assistance from the government should any needs arise.

This project represents a significant step forward for tourism in Vanua Levu, promising not only to boost the local economy but also to enhance the experiences available to both local residents and visitors. The multi-faceted development aims to bring a new wave of tourism to the area, and with anticipated job creation and infrastructure improvements, the community stands to benefit greatly from this undertaking.
