The Children’s Ward at Lautoka Hospital has undergone significant renovations due to the collaborative efforts of the FIJI Water Foundation, FIJI Water, Neptune Pacific Direct Line (NPDL), and Aspen Medical. This initiative is a part of the Wonderful Neighbour Project, which aims to enhance healthcare in Fiji’s Western Division.
Through this project, teams from FIJI Water Fleet and NPDL Naikabula engaged with the hospital to propose impactful contributions. The Wonderful Neighbour initiative enables employees from FIJI Water and NPDL to suggest and implement projects that improve their communities, with each employee receiving FJ$100 and eight hours of paid work to dedicate to these causes.
Gavin Whiteside, CEO of Aspen Medical in Fiji, expressed gratitude for the community’s support. He believes that the enhancements made at the Children’s Ward will positively impact numerous families for years to come.
The renovations included upgrades to the waiting area and restroom facilities, alongside the donation of a washing machine, dryer, a new swing set, and four trikes for the children. Additional improvements comprised extensive cleaning, painting, tiling, and landscaping efforts. Over three days, approximately 120 employees participated in these transformative efforts.
The Director of the FIJI Water Foundation, Semi Lotawa, highlighted that this year, 798 employees have contributed to 21 Wonderful Neighbour projects throughout Fiji, amounting to more than 4,500 volunteer hours. This commitment underscores the foundation’s dedication to fostering positive change and community pride, while paving the way for a sustainable future in Fiji.
This heartwarming initiative not only beautifies the hospital but also fosters a sense of community engagement and pride among employees, showing that collective efforts can lead to meaningful improvements in healthcare facilities. It is a great example of how local businesses can partner with community organizations to create lasting positive impacts.
