The government will disburse payments for qualification upgrades to 395 teachers in two phases: 50% before Christmas and the remaining amount in January, as stated by Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro. While speaking at the Fiji Teachers Registration Authority (FTRA) and Ministry of Education Annual Congress 2024 held at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa in Denarau, Mr. Radrodro emphasized the Government’s dedication to supporting educators.
Under the theme “Transforming Education: Closing Gaps, Connecting Minds, Shaping Tomorrow,” he reiterated the ministry’s efforts to ensure that teachers receive all entitled benefits this year, which will include location allowances, step-ups, and the regularization of positions.
Furthermore, Mr. Radrodro announced that 103 assistant principals would receive a step-up in their positions to differentiate them from heads of departments. He expressed that these incentives are vital in acknowledging the contributions of teachers to the education sector in Fiji, emphasizing the need to retain their professional expertise for the benefit of students.
He recognized the relentless efforts of school heads, stating that their influence extends beyond school premises. During the ongoing discussions at the Annual Congress, he urged for meaningful collaboration, calling for engagement in discussions, sharing of best practices, and coming together to improve the education sector.
Mr. Radrodro expressed optimistic hopes for the congress, envisioning it as a platform for unity among educators and a way to better prepare students for future challenges. He stated, “By sharing experiences, exchanging ideas, and learning from one another, we can cultivate a strong community that fosters change and advancements in education.”
This initiative reflects a positive stride towards enhancing the quality of education in Fiji, with significant investments in teachers, which will ultimately benefit students and the educational framework as a whole.
In summary, the government’s commitment to teacher upgrades and support serves as a foundation for a stronger educational system in Fiji, paving the way for collaborative efforts that will help in addressing the challenges of the future.
