Transforming Education: A Call to Action for Fiji’s Head Teachers

The Fiji Head Teachers Association has been urged to develop effective interventions that will benefit children and enhance education in Fiji.

Speaking at the opening of the 41st Fiji Head Teachers Association Conference at the Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort in Denarau, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro emphasized the need to create an environment that inspires and fosters innovative thinking among students, enabling them to become solution-oriented leaders in the future.

Radrodro highlighted the importance of bridging the gap between tradition and innovation, encouraging educators to empower their students to become independent thinkers. He stated, “Teamwork is essential for social cohesion, but to achieve that, we must first shape our children’s characters to possess a sense of purpose, vision, and direction.”

The Heads of Schools (HOS) were encouraged not to restrict their roles to teaching within the classroom but to actively engage with students and their families outside of school. Radrodro called for them to be transformative leaders, emphasizing that the government has made significant investments in their capacity to lead. He expressed the goal of fostering an educational environment where every student can succeed, every teacher can thrive, and every community can prosper.
