Transforming Dreams into Reality: Inspiring MSME Journeys

World MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises) Day was observed on June 27th, highlighting the vital role MSMEs play in fostering innovation, creating jobs, and promoting sustainability. This year’s theme, “Small Business, Big Change,” prompted members of the Building at Sunset community to share their inspirations for embracing entrepreneurship.

Fina Bakani Fisher, owner of Comfy Stays, operates a short-term rental business featuring two properties: a two-bedroom, one-bath accommodation in Laucala Beach Estate priced at $200 per night, and a five-bedroom, 4.5-bath setup in Pacific Harbour for $750 per night. Initially driven by the desire to spend more time with her children while contributing financially, her focus has since shifted towards achieving financial independence. She is now preparing to expand her business from a Facebook presence to a dedicated website.

Sonam Nair, managing director of Total Hygiene Solutions, started her cleaning business during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. With initial commitments from businesses needing cleaning services, she has since expanded her operations in the Suva-Nausori corridor and aims to reach other areas soon. Her passion for business, combined with the rising demand for cleaning services during the pandemic, motivated her to take this entrepreneurial step. Nair draws inspiration from the success stories of other women in business.

Veniana Ravesi, founder of Ravesi’s Kinetic Fitness, embarked on her fitness journey in high school, developing a strong passion for sports and wellness. Her experiences led her to understand the transformative effects of fitness, motivating her to assist others in achieving their fitness aspirations. With over a decade of training and multiple certifications, Ravesi created a space dedicated to promoting a healthy lifestyle, leading to the establishment of Ravesi’s Kinetic Fitness.

Kelera Lomaloma Mataika, founder of Atelier 153, an architectural design firm, is passionate about sustainability and innovation within the construction industry, utilizing local and indigenous resources. Her motivation to create the Innovation in Construction Hub stems from her desire to integrate various skills in the construction and trade sectors to drive new innovations that address infrastructural challenges in Fiji.
