The Fiji Water Foundation, in collaboration with FIJI Water, Neptune Pacific Direct Line (NPDL), and Aspen Medical, has revitalized the Children’s Ward at Lautoka Hospital just in time for Christmas. This initiative is part of their Wonderful Neighbour Project, aimed at enhancing healthcare in the Western Division.
The Wonderful Neighbour initiative allows employees from FIJI Water and NPDL to propose and execute impactful community projects. Each participant is provided with $100 and eight hours of paid time to contribute, fostering connections between the organizations and the communities they support. Aspen Medical’s CEO in Fiji, Gavin Whiteside, expressed gratitude for the contributions made to the Children’s Ward, emphasizing the lasting benefits for numerous families.
This year alone, 798 employees participated in 21 Wonderful Neighbour projects across Fiji, totaling over 4,500 hours of volunteer work. Semi Lotawa, director of the FIJI Water Foundation, highlighted their ongoing commitment to fostering positive change, community pride, and sustainability in Fiji.
The recent enhancements at the Lautoka Hospital include renovations to the waiting area and restroom facilities, along with the donation of essential items such as a new washing machine, dryer, swings, and tricycles for the children. The project also involved comprehensive cleaning, painting, tiling, and landscaping efforts, all accomplished by the hard work of 120 employees over three days.
This project not only beautified the ward but also created a welcoming space for children and their families, reinforcing a sense of community spirit and support during the festive season.
In summary, the collaboration between FIJI Water, NPDL, Aspen Medical, and the local community exemplifies the powerful impact that collective efforts can have on improving healthcare facilities. Such positive initiatives inspire hope and underline the importance of social responsibility among businesses.
