The Children’s Ward at Lautoka Hospital has undergone a significant transformation, thanks to a collaborative project led by the FIJI Water Foundation, FIJI Water, Neptune Pacific Direct Line (NPDL), and Aspen Medical. This initiative is part of the Wonderful Neighbour Project, which encourages FIJI Water and NPDL staff to identify and implement impactful projects in their communities.
Under this program, employees are empowered with a budget of FJ$100 and eight hours of paid work time, fostering stronger connections between these organizations and the communities they aim to support.
Gavin Whiteside, CEO of Aspen Medical in Fiji, expressed gratitude for the community’s backing. He highlighted that the enhancements made to the Children’s Ward would serve families for many years.
The revitalization efforts included upgrading the waiting area, improving restroom facilities, and donating vital equipment such as a new washing machine and dryer. Additionally, a new swing set and four tricycles were provided for the children to enjoy. Other contributions comprised thorough cleaning, painting of various surfaces, tiling, installing new doors, and landscaping, including planting and grass-cutting. A total of 120 employees dedicated three days to these projects.
Semi Lotawa, the Director of the FIJI Water Foundation, noted that this year alone, 798 employees participated in 21 different Wonderful Neighbour projects across Fiji, volunteering over 4,500 hours in total. This latest initiative at Lautoka Hospital exemplifies the Foundation’s dedication to fostering positive change, enhancing community spirit, and promoting a sustainable future for Fiji.
