Westpac has introduced online financial literacy training aimed at Fijians who prefer to learn from home or their workplace. This innovative program is considered a first in the Fijian market and builds upon the bank’s initial face-to-face sessions with community groups, customers, and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
Shane Smith, the Chief Executive of Westpac Fiji, highlighted that the bank is leveraging social media to connect with a broader audience and encourage individuals to enhance their skills in areas such as budgeting, planning, saving, and overall financial management throughout various life stages. Smith expressed pride in being one of the first banks in Fiji to offer virtual training sessions on financial literacy and urged interested participants to take advantage of these free offerings.
Participants who complete the course receive a certificate and resources to support their financial journey. Prior to launching the public program, Westpac organized an internal virtual session for its staff, which garnered an encouraging turnout of over 50 employees.
Since October 2023, Westpac has facilitated free financial literacy training for nearly 6,000 Fijians, offering two training options: Financial First Steps for Families and Business Basics. Westpac emphasized that this initiative demonstrates the bank’s dedication to promoting sustainable business practices and fostering economic growth in Fiji.
