A state lawyer, Sheenal Swastika, has requested additional time from the High Court in Lautoka to present the transcripts from the caution interview video of murder accused Shameem Ali. Mr. Ali appeared before Justice Riyaz Hamza, defended by attorney Losana Taukei, facing charges related to the murder of Firdosh Mohammed, which occurred on March 5 in Tomuka.

During the proceedings, Ms. Swastika informed the court that the State has yet to receive the necessary interview transcripts from the investigating officer. The court also noted that the proposed checklist for the pretrial conference remains outstanding.

To address these delays, Ms. Swastika asked for a period of 21 days to submit the agreed facts, the interview transcripts, and the draft for the pretrial conference checklist. The court was informed that the defense would subsequently file its response after these submissions.

Additionally, Ms. Taukei indicated that she had submitted a supplementary affidavit regarding Mr. Ali’s bail application on June 20. Consequently, Justice Hamza decided to adjourn both the substantive and bail matters until July 17.

This case reflects the careful procedures followed in the judicial system as all parties work to ensure that proper protocol is observed. The forthcoming session on July 17 will be crucial in determining the next steps in this legal process.
