Trailblazing Woman Takes the Reins: Meet Fiji’s New DPP Director

Nancy Tikoisuva has been appointed as the Acting Director for Public Prosecutions.

Ms. Tikoisuva received her formal appointment letter yesterday from President Ratu Willame Katonivere. She received the letter around 3:30 PM after John Rabuku vacated the office on Wednesday.

“My appointment comes at a time when there have been significant changes in the leadership for the office,” Ms. Tikoisuva said. “Our focus is to maintain the momentum on the strategic directions decided for the office. I am thankful that the Judicial Service Commission has deemed it appropriate to make the appointment internally, and I have a supportive team.”

Ms. Tikoisuva is well-acquainted with leadership roles, having served as the acting assistant director for DPP under Mr. Rabuku’s tenure.

A prominent lawyer, she has worked with the Toganivalu Legal law firm, served as an External Academic at the University of the South Pacific (USP), and worked as a consultant with the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO).

With over 18 years of experience, Ms. Tikoisuva graduated from the University of the South Pacific (USP) in 2003 and attained her Masters in Law in 2022.

“I am the second local female, the third female in the history of the DPP’s office, and the first iTaukei female to hold this role,” she said.

Her message to her female colleagues is: “Don’t give up, don’t be discouraged by bureaucracy, let your work speak for itself.”
