Police Constable (PC) Sadamma of the Labasa Police Station has affirmed the capabilities of women to excel in various roles, including being a police officer, mother, and wife. This comment came after she was honored alongside 37 other officers from the Northern Division with Long Service and Good Conduct medals at a ceremony held at the Labasa Civic Centre, officiated by Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew.

With a commendable 20-year career in the Fiji Police Force, PC Sadamma shared her journey, which began in a predominantly male-dominated environment. Reflecting on her experiences, she noted the challenges she faced early on but credited her success to the steadfast support from her family and understanding superiors. “It wasn’t easy at first, but with their encouragement, I was able to fulfill my duties effectively,” she stated.

Currently, she is a member of the Sexual Offence Unit, where she handles sensitive cases primarily involving children and women—a role she finds immensely fulfilling. “I chose to become a Policewoman because I wanted to help others, especially women and children,” Sadamma remarked, highlighting her commitment to aiding vulnerable populations.

In her address, she encouraged young women aspiring to enter law enforcement to remain steadfast in their pursuits. “Nothing comes easy in life; everyone needs to either work hard or smart to have a good career,” she advised, emphasizing the importance of perseverance.

PC Sadamma’s recognition not only underscores her individual achievements but also signifies a broader movement towards gender equality in law enforcement. Her story serves as an inspiring message to future generations, demonstrating that with dedication and support, women can excel in diverse and challenging roles. This positive narrative fosters hope and encourages more women to pursue their ambitions in fields traditionally dominated by men, reinforcing the idea that success is achievable through hard work and resilience.
