A prominent leader in the Pacific has transitioned from the University of the South Pacific to the newly established Pasifika Communities University in Suva. Dr. Manumatavai Tupou-Roosen, who previously held the position of acting Deputy Vice Chancellor at the former institution, has accepted a key role at the emerging university.
Dr. Tupou-Roosen brings three decades of expertise in fisheries and ocean governance to her new position, where she will lead the School of Ecology and Resilience Development. Her impressive background includes serving as the Director-General of the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency, making history as the first woman to hold this pivotal role. She has garnered respect both regionally and internationally for her leadership and contributions to sustainable development.
In her new capacity, Dr. Tupou-Roosen aims to enhance sustainable practices within Pasifika communities, focusing on environmental stewardship and alternative development paradigms rooted in the resilience and culturally rich practices of the region’s inhabitants. With a PhD in Law from the University of Nottingham, she is well-equipped to drive these important initiatives forward.
