Jese Dautei Robinson has made a remarkable mark in the nursing field, becoming the only male nurse to achieve a Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery among a cohort of 12 nurses in Labasa. His outstanding achievements were recognized at the graduation ceremony held at the Civic Centre in Labasa, where he received three honors for his academic excellence.
At 32 years old and hailing from Vunikodi Village in Udu, Macuata, Robinson earned accolades for his exceptional performance in various aspects of his studies, including Academic Excellence in Normal Puerperium and Newborn, Normal Labour and Birth, and Overall Academic Excellence in the midwifery program.
Robinson’s motivation to enter nursing stemmed from personal tragedy; he decided to pursue this career path after the loss of his father during his high school years. As the second eldest of eight siblings, he felt a strong sense of responsibility toward his family and community. His choice to specialize in midwifery holds significant personal meaning as well. He expressed, “I chose to become a midwife, even though I am a male nurse, because I want to become a good father.”
His dedication to nursing is mirrored by his wife’s commitment, as she too is a nurse at Labasa Hospital, enhancing their shared mission of caring for patients. Robinson’s passion for midwifery is driven by his desire to contribute joyfully to the birthing process, stating, “To help bring a life into this world and place it in a mother’s arms is the purest joy.”
