A tragic road accident occurred in Wairuku, Rakiraki last night, resulting in the death of a passenger and injuries to four others. The accident took place around 7:30 PM when the vehicle, which was traveling from Lautoka to a village in Ra, veered off the road and crashed into a drain culvert.

Emergency services, including the National Fire Authority and local police, promptly attended to the scene. The injured passengers were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the deceased was pronounced dead at the hospital.

This incident has raised concerns about road safety, especially as the national road death toll has now reached 19 this year. Compared to previous years, road safety measures and awareness have become increasingly important, as the government and police authorities strive to reduce fatalities on Fiji’s roads.

Hope remains as authorities continue their efforts to enhance road safety and prevention measures, aiming for a future with fewer tragedies like this. Community support and vigilance will also play a vital role in ensuring safer road conditions for everyone.
