A tragic motor vehicle accident in Sigatoka claimed the life of a young man in his 20s yesterday. The incident occurred along Valley Road when a vehicle, driven by a 22-year-old man, lost control and overturned multiple times near Navula in the afternoon.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the victim was one of four passengers in the vehicle. Unfortunately, he was ejected from the car during the crash, sustaining severe injuries that ultimately led to his death at the scene. The driver and the other passengers were taken to Sigatoka Hospital for medical care, where they are currently being treated as the investigation into the incident continues.

This unfortunate incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety, yet there is a notable decline in the national road death toll this year, which currently stands at 55 compared to 74 during the same period last year. This decrease suggests that efforts to improve road safety and implement preventive measures may be yielding positive results, although each loss of life remains a heartbreaking reminder of the importance of safe driving practices.

It is a hope that community awareness and education on road safety can continue to further reduce these numbers in the future.
