A tragic motor vehicle accident occurred yesterday along Valley Road in Sigatoka, claiming the life of a man in his 20s. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the victim was one of four passengers in a vehicle driven by a 22-year-old man. The vehicle reportedly veered off the road and flipped multiple times near Navula in the afternoon.
SSP Divuana indicated that the driver lost control of the vehicle, which led to the accident. The impact caused the victim to be thrown from the car, resulting in severe injuries that ultimately led to his death. The remaining passengers and the driver were quickly taken to Sigatoka Hospital, where they are currently being treated as investigations into the incident continue.
This unfortunate accident adds to the national road death toll, which now stands at 55 for the year, a decrease from 74 at the same time last year.
In light of this tragic event, it’s important to emphasize the need for vigilant driving and adherence to road safety protocols to prevent such incidents in the future. Each life lost serves as a sobering reminder of the need for caution on the roads. As authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident, it is hoped that measures will be reinforced to enhance road safety for all motorists.
