A 25-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his 59-year-old grandmother in Naitonitoni, Navua, which occurred in June. Assistant Commissioner of Police for Crime, Mesake Waqa, reported that the suspect was arrested on June 25, 2024, and was taken to Saint Giles Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. He was released back into police custody on August 6, 2024. Following his questioning, independent legal advice was sought from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, which approved the murder charge. The accused is set to appear in the Navua Magistrates Court today.
