The national road death toll reached 60 yesterday following the tragic death of a man in his 40s in Navosa. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the incident took place yesterday morning around 10 a.m.
The victim was driving a truck loaded with gravel when he reportedly lost control while descending a hill, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and resulting in the accident. SSP Divuana confirmed that the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the incident.
In comparison, the national road death toll was recorded at 74 during the same time last year, which indicates a slight improvement in road safety despite this recent accident.
It is essential to emphasize ongoing efforts in promoting road safety and driver awareness as authorities and communities work together to reduce road fatalities. Each incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safe driving practices, especially in challenging conditions such as hilly terrains.
As the community reflects on this unfortunate event, it is a pivotal opportunity for education and advocacy surrounding road safety measures to prevent further tragedies.
