The Ministry of Health is currently conducting an assessment following the death of a 23-year-old individual after a tooth extraction at the Taveuni Dental Clinic. Health Minister Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu stated that the evaluation is intended to review the procedures and practices associated with the extraction to uncover any factors that may have contributed to the tragic outcome.
“We will provide updates as the evaluation progresses,” Dr. Atonio noted. Additionally, he indicated that an investigation would only take place if formal complaints are lodged, as there are established procedures that need to be adhered to.
As of now, Dr. Atonio mentioned that no complaints have been received regarding this incident. “At this point in time we have not yet received any complaint,” he said. The family of the deceased is currently too upset to make any comments to the media.
