Police are currently investigating a fatal single-vehicle accident that occurred on Queen’s Road in Navola last night. The incident involved a man in his 30s who was reportedly driving back to Suva with a work colleague when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road.
Emergency services, including officers from the Fiji Police and National Fire Authority, responded promptly to the scene. Despite being rushed to Sigatoka Hospital, the driver was pronounced dead upon arrival. His workmate, a man in his 20s, has been admitted to the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
This tragic incident adds to the recent concerns surrounding road safety, as the current road death toll now stands at four, a notable reduction compared to 14 deaths during the same period last year. Efforts to enhance road safety and raise awareness among drivers continue to be vital in preventing such tragedies.
With the increasing focus on road safety, it is hopeful that measures being implemented will lead to even further reductions in road fatalities. The authorities are urging all road users to adhere to safety guidelines to foster a safer driving environment for everyone.
