Seventeen students from Naitasiri Secondary School, who were involved in a vehicular accident on Monday, will receive a compassionate pass following the necessary assessments and recommendations from both the Sub Divisional Medical Officer (SDMO) Naitasiri and the Head of School (HoS). This was confirmed by the Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro.
The accident occurred at the Saumakia Junction in Navuniyasi Village, and it has been reported that the driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the incident. The injured students were promptly taken to Vunidawa Hospital for treatment.
Minister Radrodro highlighted that detailed information regarding the cause of the accident cannot yet be disclosed, as police investigations are still ongoing. He reiterated that the compassionate pass will be arranged in accordance with the information gathered from the SDMO and HoS.
In addition, Minister Radrodro announced that the affected students will be encouraged to submit claims to the Accident Compensation Commission Fiji (ACCF). The Head of School will assist students, along with their parents and guardians, in this process based on police and medical reports.
He urged parents, guardians, teachers, and students to stay informed and prioritize safety to prevent such incidents in the future. Radrodro emphasized that this unfortunate event is a reminder of life’s fragility and the resilience of the community. The education ministry expressed its support for the students, their families, and all those impacted by the accident.
