Tragic Road Incident Sparks Calls for Parental Vigilance in Fiji

The Fiji Police Force is conducting an investigation into a case of alleged negligence after a one-year-old boy became the latest victim of a road fatality in Naitonitoni, Navua, yesterday.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the Director of Traffic, stated that the child was with a parent and sibling but left home unnoticed and wandered onto the road, where he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 23-year-old man.

The driver promptly took the child to Navua Hospital; however, the child was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival.

SSP Divuana noted that inquiries are ongoing and that aspects of negligence will be thoroughly examined. He urged parents and guardians to maintain heightened vigilance in supervising young children, emphasizing that accidents can happen in an instant.
