A 27-year-old man tragically lost his life in a serious road accident in Rakiraki early this morning. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, who heads the Fiji Police Force’s Traffic Division, the victim was a passenger in a vehicle along with two others, driven by a 28-year-old man.
The incident occurred around 3 am, as the group was traveling from Rakiraki to Nalawa. The driver reportedly failed to navigate a bend, which led the vehicle to veer off the road and crash into a roadside market.
All individuals involved were rushed to Rakiraki Hospital, where unfortunately, the 27-year-old was pronounced dead. The driver and one passenger received treatment and were later discharged, while the second passenger was taken to Lautoka Hospital for further care.
SSP Divuana noted that investigations are ongoing, and the current road death toll has risen to 38, compared to 62 fatalities during the same time period last year.
