An 8-year-old girl has tragically become the latest road fatality in the country. The incident occurred on Thursday night when she and her father were crossing Edinburgh Drive. A vehicle, driven by a 43-year-old man, allegedly struck them.

Both were quickly taken to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, but sadly, the child was pronounced dead upon arrival. Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana reported that the national road death toll now stands at 55, a decrease from 74 fatalities during the same time last year.

Authorities are continuing their investigations, and the driver is expected to be questioned shortly.

This tragic event highlights the critical importance of road safety, particularly for pedestrians. Communities are encouraged to stay vigilant and prioritize safety measures to prevent further accidents. While the loss of life is devastating, the decrease in overall road fatalities suggests that ongoing awareness and safety campaigns may be having a positive impact.

In these tough times, it is crucial to come together as a community to support the victim’s family and advocate for safer road practices to protect everyone, especially vulnerable pedestrians like children.
