An 8-year-old girl has tragically become the latest victim of a road accident in the country. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the incident occurred on Thursday night while the girl was crossing Edinburgh Drive with her father. They were struck by a vehicle driven by a 43-year-old man.
Both the girl and her father were quickly taken to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital; however, the young girl was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival.
SSP Divuana reported that the current national road death toll stands at 55, a decrease from 74 fatalities during the same period last year, indicating a potential improvement in road safety measures.
Authorities are continuing their investigations into the incident, and the driver involved will be questioned shortly.
In light of this unfortunate event, it serves as a somber reminder of the importance of road safety and awareness for both drivers and pedestrians. Communities can take this opportunity to advocate for better safety measures to help prevent such incidents in the future, fostering safer streets for everyone.
