An 8-year-old girl tragically became the latest victim of a road fatality in the country. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, the incident occurred on Thursday night as the child was crossing Edinburgh Drive with her father. A vehicle driven by a 43-year-old reportedly struck them.
Both the girl and her father were quickly transported to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, but the young girl was pronounced dead upon arrival. Senior Superintendent Divuana noted that the national road death toll has reached 55 for the year, which is a decrease from the 74 fatalities reported during the same time last year.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident, and the driver involved will be questioned shortly.
This heartbreaking event underscores the ongoing concerns surrounding road safety and the importance of vigilance when crossing streets. It is hopeful that with continued efforts in public awareness and stricter road regulations, such tragic incidents can be reduced in the future.
