A 20-year-old man from Matanagata, Tavua, lost his life in a road accident on the Kings Road in Naviyago, Lautoka, on Saturday morning.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, the victim was one of three passengers in a vehicle driven by a 30-year-old man. SSP Divuana reported that the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, which crashed into the railing of the Naviyago bridge before landing in the river.
Both the victim and another passenger were quickly transported to Lautoka Aspen Hospital, where the young man was pronounced dead upon arrival.
As of now, the road death toll has reached 41, a decrease from 63 fatalities during the same period last year.
