A 20-year-old man from Matanagata in Vatukoula has become the latest victim of a road fatality in the country. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, Director of Traffic, reported that the victim was one of three passengers in a vehicle driven by a 30-year-old man. The accident occurred on Saturday morning along the Kings Road in Naviyago, Lautoka.
According to SSP Divuana, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, leading it to crash into the railing of the Naviyago bridge before landing in the river. The victim and another passenger were quickly transported to Lautoka Aspen Hospital, where the 20-year-old was pronounced dead upon arrival.
One passenger remains hospitalized, while the other occupants of the vehicle were treated and subsequently discharged. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Currently, the road death toll stands at 41, a notable decrease from 63 fatalities during the same period last year.
