A tragic road accident in Rakiraki this morning resulted in the death of a 27-year-old man. Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, the Director of Traffic for the Fiji Police Force, reported that the victim was a passenger in a vehicle along with two others, driven by a 28-year-old man.
The incident occurred around 3 am as the group was traveling from Rakiraki to Nalawa. The driver is believed to have lost control while navigating a bend, causing the vehicle to go off the road and crash into a nearby roadside market.
All individuals involved were taken to Rakiraki Hospital, where the victim was sadly pronounced dead. The driver and one other passenger received treatment and were discharged, while a second passenger was transferred to Lautoka Hospital for further care.
SSP Divuana confirmed that investigations into the accident are ongoing. He also noted that the current road death toll stands at 38, a decrease compared to 62 fatalities during the same period last year.
