According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana from the Fiji Police Force’s Traffic Department, the victim was a passenger in a vehicle with two others, which was being driven by a 28-year-old man.
Reports indicate that as they were traveling from Rakiraki to Nalawa around 3 a.m., the driver failed to navigate a bend, resulting in the vehicle veering off the road and colliding with a roadside market.
All occupants were taken to Rakiraki Hospital, where the victim was sadly pronounced dead. The driver and one passenger received treatment and were subsequently discharged, while another passenger was transferred to Lautoka Hospital for further care.
SSP Divuana confirmed that investigations are ongoing, noting that the current road death toll stands at 38, a decrease compared to 62 during the same period last year.
