A Tailevu North farmer, identified as 27-year-old Temesia Manu from Sawakasa Village, tragically succumbed to injuries sustained in a road accident on Lodoni Road yesterday morning. According to police reports, Manu lost control of his vehicle as he approached Nananu Village, leading to a crash against an electric post.
Emergency responders from the National Fire Authority quickly transported him to Korovou Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The family of Mr. Manu, including his four-year-old son and a wife who is nine months pregnant with their second child, is grappling with the devastating news. Eseta Ramatau, his cousin, expressed the shock and heartbreak felt by the family, emphasizing the bond they shared and the difficult situation his immediate family faces during this tragic time.
The incident contributes to a growing concern over road safety in the region. Current statistics indicate that the national road death toll stands at 22 for the year, slightly up from 21 fatalities during the same period last year. Comparatively, similar recent incidents have highlighted the importance of safe driving practices. For instance, earlier accidents involved individuals losing control of their vehicles and raised alarms regarding speeding and reckless driving.
Authorities continue to urge the community to prioritize road safety and adhere to traffic regulations, underscoring that responsible driving can significantly reduce the incidence of such tragedies. There is hope that through increased awareness and ongoing education campaigns, road safety will improve, ultimately helping to protect families like that of Mr. Manu in the future.
