A 20-year-old man is reported to be the latest victim in a road fatality incident. Director Traffic Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana stated that the young man was one of three passengers in a vehicle driven by a 30-year-old man involved in an accident on Kings Road in Naviyago, Lautoka on Saturday morning.
According to SSP Divuana, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into the railing of the Naviyago bridge before landing in the river. The victim and another passenger were immediately taken to Lautoka Aspen Hospital, where the 20-year-old from Matanagata in Tavua was declared dead upon arrival.
One of the other passengers remains hospitalized, while the other occupants received treatment and have since been discharged.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident. SSP Divuana noted that the current road death toll stands at 41, a decrease from the 63 recorded during the same period last year.
