A woman in her 70s has lost her life in a motor vehicle accident on the Viseisei bypass road yesterday. The Director Traffic Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana reported that the deceased was a passenger in a vehicle operated by a 36-year-old woman, who is considered to be the suspect in the case.
Preliminary information indicates that the suspect may have lost control of her vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and collide with a post. The force of the impact then caused the vehicle to swing back onto the road, where it struck another vehicle.
Currently, the suspect is receiving treatment at Lautoka Hospital, while the driver and passenger of the second vehicle were unharmed. SSP Divuana mentioned that speeding is suspected to be the cause of the crash, urging all drivers to adhere to speed limits for the safety of everyone on the road. So far this year, the road death toll has reached 37, a decrease from the 60 fatalities recorded during the same period last year.
