A 27-year-old man lost his life in a tragic road accident in Rakiraki early this morning. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, who heads the Fiji Police Force’s Traffic Unit, the victim was traveling as a passenger in a vehicle driven by a 28-year-old man, accompanied by two others.
Reports indicate that while traveling from Rakiraki to Nalawa around 3 a.m., the driver failed to navigate a bend in the road, resulting in the vehicle veering off and crashing into a roadside market.
All individuals in the vehicle were taken to Rakiraki Hospital, where the 27-year-old was sadly pronounced dead. The driver and one passenger received treatment and were later discharged, while the other passenger was moved to Lautoka Hospital for further care.
SSP Divuana confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, and noted that the current road death toll stands at 38, a decrease compared to 62 fatalities during the same time period last year.
