A man in his 50s is reported to be the latest road fatality in the country following an accident in Davuilevu this morning. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the Director of Traffic, indicated that the man was returning home after completing his night shift when he apparently lost control of his vehicle. This led to the car veering off the road and crashing into a post.
Emergency services from the National Fire Authority and Police responded to the incident. The victim was quickly transported for medical care but was unfortunately declared dead upon arrival. SSP Divuana mentioned that a post-mortem will be carried out to determine the exact cause of death.
Currently, the national road death toll stands at 40, in contrast to 63 fatalities recorded during the same period last year.
