A family is grieving the loss of their son, who drowned in a tragic swimming incident in the United States. Kaiva Francis, a 21-year-old from Wailevu in Labasa, lost his life in the Neosho River located in Eastern Kansas while attending Neosho County Community College.

His parents are devastated by the news, particularly as Francis had recently returned to the U.S. after spending two and a half months in Fiji. His father was unable to comment due to his overwhelming sorrow when reached for a statement.

Neosho County Sheriff Greg Taylor provided details in a press release, stating that Francis was swimming with friends when the accident occurred. “The victim’s body has been recovered and sent for an autopsy,” he confirmed. According to witnesses, Francis jumped off a dam and was caught in the river’s current.
