A tragic incident has resulted in the death of an 8-year-old girl, making her the latest road fatality in the country. The accident occurred on Thursday night as the child was crossing Edinburgh Drive with her father when they were reportedly struck by a vehicle driven by a 43-year-old man.

Both the child and her father were quickly transported to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, but unfortunately, the girl was pronounced dead upon arrival. Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, the Director of Traffic, reported that the current national road death toll stands at 55, which is a decrease from the 74 fatalities recorded during the same period last year.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into this incident, and the driver involved is expected to be questioned soon.

This incident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of road safety, especially for children. Efforts to enhance road safety measures could play a crucial role in preventing similar tragedies in the future, leading to a hopeful reduction in road fatalities overall.
