A tragic accident occurred yesterday on Nasovatava Road in Nadroga, where a four-year-old boy lost his life after being struck by a vehicle. Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the unfortunate incident, which happened around 9 a.m.
The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Savenaca Narube, a digger operator from Nasovatava Village in Sigatoka, was driving when the young victim, Simione Cokanauto, reportedly ran across the road unexpectedly. Emergency services rushed the child to Loma Nursing Station in Sigatoka; however, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. Such incidents highlight the importance of road safety, particularly in areas with young children, emphasizing the need for increased awareness among drivers and community members to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
