A man in his 30s tragically lost his life in a vehicle accident in Nasinu early this morning. Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, the Director of Traffic, reported that the collision occurred near the Nasinu road junction shortly after 3 AM.

The victim was traveling towards Suva when his vehicle was struck by another car, also driven by a man in his 30s, heading in the opposite direction. Despite being rushed to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, the victim was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Authorities are conducting an investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding the crash. SSP Divuana emphasized the importance of vigilance on the roads, urging drivers to adopt safe driving habits. He noted that road safety advocates continuously stress the necessity for all road users to adhere to safety practices. However, with the number of traffic offenses logged daily, he expressed concern that many individuals are not taking these warnings seriously.

“Complacency leads to accidents and sometimes the tragic loss of lives,” Divuana added. He called for a shift in mindset among road users, highlighting that adhering to traffic regulations is crucial for ensuring safety and enjoying an incident-free festive season.

Encouragingly, this year’s road death toll stands at 46, a significant decrease from 68 during the same time last year. This reflects a potential positive trend in road safety awareness among the community.

As investigations proceed, the community is reminded of the critical importance of road safety and the role each individual plays in preventing accidents.
