A 16-year-old boy has tragically become the latest victim of a road accident. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, the teenager was driving on Korotari Road in Labasa shortly after 1 a.m. on December 3rd when he reportedly lost control of his vehicle. The car veered off the road and collided with a culvert.
Emergency services rushed him to the Labasa Hospital, where he was treated until he sadly succumbed to his injuries. SSP Divuana revealed that the young driver was operating the vehicle without a valid driver’s license, which is a key element in the ongoing investigation into the incident.
The current road death toll stands at 57, showing a decline compared to the 74 fatalities recorded during the same period last year. This statistic highlights the ongoing efforts to improve road safety awareness.
While this incident is a painful reminder of the dangers associated with reckless driving, it also serves as a call to action for better education on road safety, particularly for younger drivers. Programs aimed at instilling responsible driving habits at an early age could help prevent such tragedies in the future.
In summary, this unfortunate event underscores the necessity of adhering to traffic laws and the ongoing need for awareness initiatives to safeguard young drivers and other road users.
