A Year 12 student from Xavier College in Ba, Diksha Shreya Chand, tragically passed away due to dengue fever, as confirmed by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services. The incident occurred on March 30, underscoring the ongoing health crisis linked to the mosquito-borne virus that has affected many in the region.
In response to the outbreak, the Ministry is prioritizing preventive health measures, conducting thorough investigations, and launching awareness campaigns at Xavier College and within the surrounding community. Actions include Adult Mosquito Spraying and cleanup initiatives aimed at controlling mosquito populations in identified hotspots across Ba. The Ministry reported achieving a significant coverage of 70% for mosquito control efforts and 60% for disease investigation.
This unfortunate event marks a critical juncture as the Western Division has seen alarming increases in dengue cases, with the Ministry reporting a total of over 2841 cases as of March 23. Health officials have emphasized the importance of community involvement in combating the disease, particularly in light of favorable mosquito breeding conditions created by recent rains.
Xavier College’s principal, Jalendra Prasad, reassured that the school is taking all necessary precautions to safeguard students’ health and is cooperating fully with health authorities. The Ministry is also working collaboratively with municipal councils to enhance their response to the dengue outbreak.
The tragic death of Diksha serves as a stark reminder of the seriousness of the ongoing health crisis and the need for vigilant public health measures. Community cooperation is paramount in controlling the spread of dengue, and health officials urge residents to maintain clean environments and take proactive actions to eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites.
Despite the challenges posed by this health crisis, there remains hope that through collective efforts and ongoing vigilance, the community can work together to mitigate the impacts of dengue fever and ensure the safety of its residents moving forward.
