A tragic incident has occurred in Galoa village, where a one-year-old child has become the latest drowning victim in the country. On Tuesday, the child was discovered floating near the shoreline, and unfortunately, all efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Reports indicate that the young child was in the company of an older sibling when he wandered out to sea, leading to this heartbreaking outcome. Authorities are set to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, particularly focusing on potential negligence.

In light of this tragedy, the Fiji Police Force is urging all parents and guardians to maintain vigilant supervision of young children to prevent such unfortunate incidents and the loss of life.

This year’s drowning death toll now stands at 46, slightly lower than the 47 reported during the same period last year.

While this incident is undeniably tragic, it serves as a crucial reminder for families to prioritize children’s safety, especially near bodies of water. By raising awareness and reinforcing safety measures, communities can work together to prevent future tragedies.
