Ubayd Haider, a promising Fijian featherweight boxer, has tragically passed away at the age of 25. Formerly known as Nathan Singh, Haider suffered serious head injuries during a title fight against Chinese boxer Runqi Zhou on October 26. The bout, which took place at an IBO Asia Pacific Featherweight championship event in Nadi, resulted in a ninth-round TKO loss for Haider.
After the match, he was quickly transferred to Lautoka Hospital, where he was placed in the Intensive Care Unit due to the severity of his injuries. The news of his passing was announced on social media by his brother, Sebastian Singh, who expressed his heartbreak and shared a heartfelt farewell message, stating, “R I P …. See you on the other side, love you my bro. You’ll always be remembered.”
This loss has devastated the boxing community and fans alike, who remembered Haider for his dedication to the sport and his contributions as an athlete. He leaves behind a legacy that will inspire future generations of boxers in Fiji and beyond.
