The tragic passing of 39-year-old Fijian Sikeli Nawaqa in Perth, Australia, has left his wife and four children in Fiji heartbroken. Nawaqa was involved in a fatal car accident on Sunday, when the vehicle he was driving collided with a tree.
Hailing from Nayawa in Nadroga and having ties to Naceva, Beqa, Nawaqa was travelling with three fellow Fijian men who were injured and later airlifted to Perth Hospital in the evening.
His wife, Sulueti Naula, expressed the profound sorrow she feels upon receiving the devastating news, particularly for their children whom she must now raise alone. She indicated that a pastor who supported them in Perth visited the hospital that morning for an update, but her world came crashing down when she received a phone call from her husband’s employer two hours later.
Naula recalled her last conversation with Nawaqa on Saturday, during which they discussed plans for their 18-year-old son to pursue studies abroad. Nawaqa had sought overseas employment through the National Employment Centre two years ago and had been shifting between Fiji and Australia for work. Prior to his death, he worked as a supervisor at the Agri Fresh Citrus Farm. Naula described him as a dedicated family man.
The family is currently making arrangements for Nawaqa’s funeral, as they grapple with this profound loss.
