Fijian Featherweight Boxer Ubayd Haider, who was previously known as Nathan Singh, has tragically passed away at the age of 25. Haider was taken to Lautoka Hospital after sustaining serious head injuries following a TKO defeat to Australia-based Chinese boxer Runqi Zhou on October 26. The match, which was part of the IBO Asia Pacific Featherweight title contest organized by South Pacific Boxing Promotions, concluded with Haider going down in the ninth round.
He was subsequently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, where he remained under observation. The heartbreaking news of his passing was shared on social media by his older brother, fellow boxer Sebastian Singh, just a few minutes ago.
In a poignant tribute, Singh expressed his sorrow with the words, “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return,” adding, “R I P …. See you on the other side, love you my bro. You’ll always be remembered.”
The boxing world mourns the loss of a talented athlete whose promising career was cut short too soon. His dedication to the sport and vibrant spirit will be remembered by fans and fellow boxers alike.
As the community reflects on Haider’s contributions to boxing, it serves as a reminder of the risks athletes take in pursuit of their dreams. In light of this tragedy, there is hope that increased safety measures in the sport can help protect future boxers and foster a safer competitive environment.
