Kaminieli Varo, a 32-year-old father of five, was laid to rest in his hometown of Navoci, Nadi, last Friday. Tragically, Varo drowned earlier this month while at the Murrumbidgee River near Yanco in New South Wales, Australia. His body was discovered a few days later.
Varo relocated to Australia in 2022 as part of the National Employment Centre’s Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme, where he was engaged in a four-year contract scheduled to conclude next year. His wife, Mere Dawai, shared that he had planned to return home just in time to celebrate Christmas with his family.
Family and friends gathered to honor Varo and express their sorrow, highlighting the support from his colleagues and friends who participated in the search for his body. A workmate delivered a heartfelt eulogy, emphasizing that Varo was a dedicated family man, tirelessly working to provide for his loved ones.
He leaves behind a grieving wife and five children, but his legacy of hard work and devotion will undoubtedly live on in their hearts.
This tragic event underscores the importance of cherishing our loved ones and the fleeting nature of life. As the community comes together to support Varo’s family during this difficult time, it serves as a reminder of the bonds we share and the strength found in unity.
