Jonathan Joss, the talented voice actor renowned for his role as John Redcorn in the animated series “King of the Hill,” was tragically shot and killed near his home in San Antonio, Texas. The incident occurred during the evening on Sunday, when police responded to a call about a shooting in progress. Upon arrival, they found the 59-year-old actor injured and he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

His husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, confirmed the heartbreaking news and shared that the couple had faced harassment, often laden with “openly homophobic” remarks. De Gonzales reported that the assailant shouted homophobic slurs before the shooting took place. During the confrontation, Joss is said to have pushed his husband out of harm’s way, ultimately sacrificing his life to save de Gonzales.

The attacker, 56-year-old Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, has been arrested and charged with murder, although police stated that their investigation revealed no evidence suggesting that the murder was motivated by Joss’s sexual orientation. San Antonio authorities emphasized their thoroughness regarding these allegations, reassuring the public of their commitment to uncover the truth.

Joss, who was actively engaged in events related to the revival of “King of the Hill” at the time of his death, had shared on social media his excitement about reconnecting with fans, highlighting the show’s return with new episodes slated to premiere. His contributions to the entertainment industry also included a role in “Parks and Recreation” and appearances in “Tulsa King,” adding significant depth to his diverse career.

Tragically, just earlier this year, Joss faced another personal ordeal when he lost his home and all his possessions, including his vehicle, in a fire that also claimed the lives of his three pets. A GoFundMe was established to assist him during that challenging time, illustrating the support of the community surrounding him.

As the investigation continues, the outpouring of love and condolences from fans and friends reflects the deep admiration for Joss’s body of work and the positive impact he had on many lives. His husband expressed gratitude towards their supporters, highlighting how much Joss valued his fans, seeing them as family.

In a working world where challenges persist, Joss’s commitment to love and his contributions to the community and the arts remain a hopeful legacy, reminding all of us of the importance of compassion and understanding in times of adversity.
